Coffee culture in London, 1959

The hiss, slurp and barista rituals of coffee consumption have become ingrained in London life in their modern form relatively recently. Yet the roots of coffee and café culture in the city run quite deep. They became established in Soho in the 1950s, when this delectable Look At Life mini-documentary was made. It doesn’t need much introduction. Just imbibe and enjoy.

The comment thread says that the drummer and bass player in the film are Brian Bennett and Brian Locking, later of The Shadows. Read more about the Look At Life series here.

THANK YOU for visiting OnLondon.co.uk, which has launched a five-week, all-or-nothing crowdfunding project so that it can keep going and growing. Please follow this link and pledge what you can. Thank you.
