The London of David Bailey

The London of David Bailey

Lacking a serious raincoat, my best protection against very cold, very wet London rain – such as I braved first thing this morning on my way to meet a certain lord – is to remind myself that David Bailey once said: “I prefer London in the rain…I just find it so beautiful.”

Bailey, now 79 years old, was born in Leytonstone and grew up in East Ham. He is most widely known for photographing rising stars of the Swinging Sixties, but he has also spent a lot of time pointing his camera at less fashionable London subjects, especially in the East End. Here he is talking about an exhibition of his East End pictures in 2012.

And that’s that. More about David Bailey here and here.
